SPECIFIC
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES THAT RELATE TO THE ABOVE DEPARTMENT/POSITION:
The Library
Assistant II in Interlibrary Loan assists library patrons in completing
requests for interlibrary loan; initiates and fills ILL requests made
via OCLC, telephone, fax, and electronic means; and maintains detailed
circulation and statistical records. The Library Assistant II will also
provide public service assistance to library patrons at the Access
Services Desk, which may include searching library databases, locating
materials, and operating library equipment such as photocopiers and
microform reader/printers. Other responsibilities include training and
supervising work study students and performing routine minor maintenance
on library equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: The person in this position has primary responsibility for all duties relating to the interlibrary loan function of the library. Complex bibliographic searching is required, using manual and automated systems; familiarity with URSUS, Maine InfoNet, and OCLC is highly desirable. Data entry and word processing may require the physical ability to do repeated keyboarding. Because the position involves considerable interaction with University faculty, staff and students as well as with interlibrary loan staff at other academic, public, and school libraries, attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication skills are paramount. Any regular full-time or part-time employee interested in the above position should submit a cover letter to include how you meet the stated qualifications and a complete resume to my office prior to the listed closing date. All others must complete an application for employment. Laurie A. Gardner Director of Human Resources and Administrative Services
