| ETHNIC IDENTIFICATION (per OFCCP Order No. FCCM 78-1/CH 1., dated 2/9/78) The following racial designations do not denote scientific definitions of anthropological origins. An employee may be included in the group to which he or she appears to belong, identifies with, or is regarded in the community as belonging. However no person should be counted in more than one racial/ethnic group. Contractors and compliance officers should use discretion, of course, to apply these definitions in a manner consistent with the intent of the Executive Order. PROTECTED GROUPS: American Indian or Alaskan Native A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North America, and who maintains cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community recognition. Asian or Pacific Islander A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent or the Pacific Islands. This area includes, for example, China, Japan, Korea, the Philippine Islands, and Samoa. Black, not of Hispanic Origin A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. Hispanic A person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race. NOT PROTECTED: White, not of Hispanic Origin A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East. ***************************************************************** Note: The Indian subcontinent includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Sikkim, and Bhutan. Note: Persons from Portugal, Brazil, Guyana, Surinam, or Trinidad would usually not be of Spanish culture or origin. |
