A. Prior to the Campus Opening in the Morning
1. An administrator at SAD #9 will telephone the Vice President for Administration at 5:30 a.m. on the days that SAD #9 decides not to hold classes. SAD #9's decision to cancel school is based on reports from a weather bureau, the State Highway Department, the Sheriff's Office, personnel in surrounding towns, and from personal inspection of road conditions by the SAD #9 administrator.
2. The Vice President for Administration, based on conditions reported by SAD #9, information from a professional weather service, campus conditions, and any additional available information, will determine whether UMF classes and work should be cancelled.
3. If the decision is made to cancel, the Vice President for Administration will notify the following people by 5:45a.m.
a. Vice President for Community and Student Services
b. President
c. Public Safety
4. The Vice President for Administration will also arrange for the UMF central switchboard to be programmed by 6:00 a.m. to announce to callers that classes/work at UMF are cancelled for that day.
5. The Vice President for Community and Student Services will immediately notify the following radio/TV stations and request that they announce that all day classes and work have been cancelled at UMF:
WUMF - Campus
WKTJ - Farmington
WCYY - Portland
WRUM - Rumford
WTOS - Skowhegan
WMME - Augusta
WCSH-TV - Portland
6. The Director of Facilities Management will coordinate efforts to try to keep parking lots and walkways open throughout all snow storms.
7. By 1p.m. each day, the Vice President for Administration will determine whether afternoon/evening classes should be cancelled and, when the decision is made to cancel, will promptly transmit the details to: the above-listed stations; the campus switchboard; a staff member in the Student Life Office, who will immediately have the cancellation notice placed on the TV monitors in the Student Center.
B. During the Day Once UMF Has Started in Operation:
1. The President or his/her designee may, at any time during the day, declare an
administrative leave due to inclement weather. The length of the administrative
leave will be specified.
2. Once the administrative leave is declared, the campus switchboard operator will
be directed to notify all offices of the administrative leave.
3. Only the President or his/her designee has the authority to declare an administrative
leave for the campus or for individual employees. |
